Those two houses, connected with each other, were constructed in the same time when most residences at Miodowa street - in 18th century. The House of Karol Bay is named after famous, baroque architect, which was probably its designer as well as the founder.
The House of Dupont is named after its first owner Franciszek Florian Dupont, a court doctor of the king August II.
About 1770 the house of Karol Bay was reconstructed for the Bishop of Livonia Antoni Ostrowski (probably according to a design by Szymon Zug or Efraim Schroeger) and joined to House of Dupont and the neighbouring house at Kapitulna 7. Both buildings were later sometimes described 'together' as Slominski Palace (after the name of their later owner).
The buildings were destroyed in 1939. They were reconstructed in years 1948-49, basing on the painting by Zygmunt Vogel.
